Naughty Networking

There has been blah in some press or other about people doing their social networking at work. Some firms have put blocks on those sites so their employees can't chat and play about all day. I have to confess I do most of mine at work but I am almost wishing our computers were blocked because whilst I only spend up to 20 minutes a day on this, and that's only because the work is quiet, there is somebody who spends at least half her time chatting on MSN messenger and all sorts of other things. I'd love if she could have her mobile confiscated between 9 and 5 too. She'll be reading texts and sending texts while I'm talking to her!
If I use her computer the desktop is absolutely plastered with icons which have nothing to do with work and it takes several minutes to perform any functions because she has so many social sites open on it at once. Grrrrr!!!!!
This person rolls in at 9.10, chats to her friend for 20 - 30 minutes, goes to her room, networks away, goes to lunch at 5 to 1, comes back at 5 past 2, chats with same friend for up to 15 minutes, leaves at 4.50. That's over an hour off every day for starters. And she spent half an hour today between 12 and 12.30 just chatting.
I've never been that conscientious except when I'm too busy and needs must, but this person is off the scale and it's really annoying me because she keeps complaining she has too much work to do in the time available!

Boss is a pussy cat so he won't say anything, he just complains to other people about it. He ought to complain to himself. So I don't know. I do almost wish he would just ban the use of the sites. Maybe someone will blow the whistle one day. There would probably be less Singing from the Chicken if that happened as I still don't think I would want to blog in the evenings but quality is more important than quantity.

  1. I should miss you if you did't.
It's not too bad blogging from home, you know.
I turn on the PC at 6am to read the papers, download iPlayer etc. Have a quick blog...all over by nine. I am retired so I know it's a bit different. I don't use the PC during the day. Got back in from Sainsbury's today about 4:15.....looked to see what you thought of y latest...what no Foody?
Heart sank...she didn't like my post.....Foody posted late....everything OK again.
    See....I should miss you.
Sorry my post was a bit long....I must shorten them a bit and improve on the quality.

  2. 6 AM???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All over by 9?????!!!!!!!!!!!!! Heck. When I retire I won't have surfaced by then.
No, you see, playing on the internet isn't actually something I enjoy.
I did say when I began the blog that I might not appear every day and might not always reply to posts etc etc. It isn't personal and doesn't mean I don't like the posts, the comments etc it just means I haven't blogged because this isn't really my thing (would you believe?). But thank you for saying you would miss me. Now that makes me think I'd better keep this all up, but the more you blog, the more you have to keep on blogging. I was afraid from the start that blogging might become a burden, especially if I have to do it in my own time! I don't have enough of that as things are.
I don't mind long comments and I hadn't thought there was anything that needed to be changed in the quality.

  3. The 6am start is because...for my last 7 years full time work I was up in London, Hammersmith.
I drove up the M40 to Uxbridge, left the car and took the tube up to the smoke. First train out of the depot, the 6:40. We had flexitime and I chose to start at 7:30. I avoided all the traffic. I left work ar 4:00pm and got home by 5.
I just can't get out of the habit now.
My Dad used to say "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise".
I never let it become a burden. I stick to my little routine.
    Cheers.....Happy Kipper!
